Good news for cleaners

Fair Work Ombudsman is auditing many places that employ cleaners all over Australia. For some months international students were being underpaid especially by Swan cleaning company. Now there might be chance for some of them to get their money back.

It is time for the cleaning industry to wake up and pay their workers properly. For a long time shopping centre managers charge rent to their tenants worth thousands of dollars yet cleaners are not paid properly. Many struggle on poverty wages whilst doing back breaking work.

The Ombudsman will also make sure that workplace safety rules are adhered to.

“It is not acceptable for organizations to outsource work to the lowest-cost contractor and turn a blind eye to any subsequent unfair treatment of low-paid workers. Such behavior can be detrimental to an organization reputation and may also be considered unlawful.” quote from Inside retail.

In the coming months we hope that students are being paid back all of their wages. This is a good outcome for us and we're sure it would be for many students. We hope to hear from the Ombudsman soon and eagerly await for the results. Lets keep our fingers crossed
