Where to eat for free as a student

Short of cash after paying your bills and fees? Do you need some food? Then here is where you can eat for free as a student.

1) Art gallery openings- they often have free food for every one. Did you know that RMIT Link have new openings every two weeks. Well they do. They mainly showcase student artworks and it is free for everyone.
But you just need to show some appreciation for the student's artworks.

2) Shopper launches and members parties often have food too- but they are hard to come by and you usually have to be invited. But if you like a particular shop you can join their membership program if they have one. Usually the membership is for free but at other times you need to pay a small price for the fun.

3) Sometimes Student Union runs free food events each week. I know the one in the city does their events every week. They usually have one weekly bbq and one weekly breakfast. But there are other things too that various departments will run from time to time. You just need to keep an eye out for the posters around the campus when you are on campus. This is a great way to make friends.

4) Next time its your birthday, Christmas or whatever ask your parents to give you money instead for food and things.

5) Score yourself a part time job at a cafe- I know they might be hard to come by but if you manage to get one you'll always have leftover food at the end of the day to take home. They can't sell this the next day.

6) The Couch is also another option for free food. Note they are only open four nights in a week. Not only do you get free food, this is a chance to mingle with the local students and practice your English.

Hopefully this helps the struggling students at university. But do also spend some money at the cheap eateries around town. Oh and if you are not much of a cook, learn how to cook.
