D House cafe

D House Cafe has been around for a while but I never got a chance to try it until now. As a student these prices are reasonable.

They are the sister restaurant of the Pancake Dessert House eatery so I expected to see crepes on the menu for dessert. Instead I saw shaved ice which is a HK dessert.

At 3pm when I came they were steady. Here they specialise in the Hong Kong street noodle in which you choose three items out of 27 and your choice of noodle. Then they fullfil your order with soup. The soup of course has MSG.

Because it was no meat May everything I picked was seafood or vegetarian with rice noodles. The rice noodles was broken and slippery.

But the drinks and the chilli looked so good.

Do come by when you need a break from study and exams.

Sea Salt in Carlton

This branch has been there for a while now and already they have had quite a few customers. They have been open for many years and I have been meaning to go there but I have not had the chance yet. Until tonight that is.

On Friday nights they are really busy. They were flat out until after 7:30pm.

My flathead fish of the day was really good. It came with a garden salad and for the health freak I had mine grilled with lemon sauce which was quite nice. All under $15.

Do come by to Sea salt and for Zomato's record Sea salt in Degraves is now closed.

American Honey at Campari House in short

Campari house have released some new cocktails and not that many new eats. This week's theme is American honey. This honey is quite sweet and the gin is quite sweet and smokey. It is also a little bit spicey adding in that kick.

It was in their lounge that they had this event and many people turned up and got their free snack and drink. Pity that there were not any ribs as promised on their Facebook page.

But people were able to purchase drinks and food at the bar. Most of them were relatively expensive.

Campari house is featured in the Entertainment book which you can buy off Healthy International students site and help them to support the homeless. The Salvation Army is a charity that supports the homeless and 20% off the sale of the book goes towards helping them.

Campari house has a discount of 25% off the total bill.

The popcorn on offer worked well with the gin. It was smokey in some areas and sweet in others.

Do come by Campari house for a drink and a pizza or two.

Red Spice's bar pop up Thursday

This is a free event where Red Spice showcases their alcoholic side with a snack. It happens on a few Thurdays of the year.
Pale Ale

A small sample of their latest ale

Red Spice is a South East Asian bar and restaurant in McKillop st just off Bourke st. Here the place is huge and they are featured in the Entertainment book which you can buy off Healthy International students site. 20% off all profits from the book sold goes towards helping the Salvation Army.

Red Spice have an offer in the book for 25% off the total bill.

There was a lot of action behind the bar. Pity that the place isn't bustling with people at this time. But later on at 6pm it became quite busy with people. All of the punters were looking for a drink or two. They do have a long wine and cocktail list and a lot of champagne.

They also have a lot of Thai inspired food and snacks.

Here I had a pale ale with a pork belly bao. The pale ale worked well with this bao as it brought out all the spiciness. The pork belly in there was juicy.

Do come by to their bar for a lovely cocktail or beer

Cookie

Cookie is on every foodie in Melbourne's list and I wonder why. I hadn't got around to visiting it until now as I'm always busy or its just too expensive.

Since July is normally food and restaurant month, we figured to visit Cookie. Cookie is a great bar which features a huge cocktail and wine list.

Cookie is just on level one of Curtin house and the Toff is just a floor above it.

I loved sitting near the bar and watching the staff make the drinks for their customers. The staff loved talking to their customers and its not something you see every single day.

The bathrooms are out the back and behind a bookcase. They are clean and luxurious.

The staff were friendly and attentive. You can order at the bar or you can order at your table. This place has a lot of food on their list and like Chalawan their Pad Thai is $19.50. But this one is much better in terms of flavour than Chalawan's. The flavours here seem to pop right out of your month. And the noodles were al dente. They also had beansprouts with it and Chalawan did not. I loved the hard boiled egg on the side. It had a nice touch to the dish.

There was a huge chilli kick to this dish which I liked. Normally if I was to order it with chicken or prawns it would have been a tad more expensive.

Also I loved my roti- it was light and fluffy. If only Chalawan offered this it would be great.

Rating: 15/20- do come by for the drinks and the food. Oh and the other table's dumplings looked great but I didn't see them on the menu. If I did I must have skipped at option.

Healthy fusion sushi

This place was recommended to me by Curious Charlie who has a penchence for cheap things. Here they were quiet at 3pm when I went.

They have a variety of hot meals on offer as well as cold. They are in the QV shopping mall. Here a box of two sushi rolls is $4 where as at Sushi Hub they are $5.60 for two rolls. I had the vegetarian rolls with tofu. It was ok but after a while it fell apart.

The service was just ok, but the second time around they were friendlier.

But then the second time around it was much better but they gave me a really huge bowl of fish curry don for $7.50 eat in. I was really full afterwards. The fish had a little bit too much batter but the curry sauce was really nice.

Chalawan

RNIS did not have to pay for the curry and the drink but paid for the Pad Thai.

Chalawan turned one and they are still going strong. This is a place in Collingwood known for good Thai food and cocktails. It is the Cookie of Collingwood as in everything here is expensive. All the drinks are around the $19 mark but they do have half priced drinks for Friday between 7pm-10pm.

The place is on Smith st via tram and its easy to get to.

The staff behind the bar are great. They were friendly and attentive. The bathrooms are behind a door and they smell. But the smell isn't too bad though.

Thai the Knot is a Thai cocktail with a lime flavour to it. I felt that there was not a lot of alcohol in this and I would have liked a bit more. For $19 it was a bit on the pricey side.

The Pad Thai was great and I loved the king prawns. Here they used rice noodles. There wasn't a lot of egg in this and I would have liked a bit more.

The beef curry was also great and for $19 it should have included rice. Here there was not much meat and a lot of sauce. But the beef was tender and the sauce was a little bit on the sweet side. This curry is not too spicy for those that don't like spice.

Rating: 12/20- its just ok. A bit pricey though but do come here for your Friday night drinks.
